River Landscape with Riders (c. 1653 – 1657) by Aelbert Cuyp
The painting is thought to have been inspired by Cuyp’s travels along the Rhine River between Nijmegen and Cleves in the early 1650s. The mountainous landscape in the background is based on those seen in this area. Cuyp made various landscape drawings in this area, which he further elaborated in his studio in Dordrecht.
