The Ball (1890) by Henri Gervex
Gervex came back to the theme of the ball, with a touch of serenity. A fresh girl, in a secluded living room, taking a moment of rest between two dances, seems to symbolize the first emotions of love experienced in the intoxication of the waltz. One feels the omen of a future happiness. The girl with a smile so sweet would be a portrait of Miss Fauche, who would become Mrs. Gervex in 1893.
