White Angora Cat Chasing a Butterfly (1761) by Jean-Jacques Bachelier
This gorgeous white angora is interrupted mid-stroll by an unlucky butterfly; the cat, as the ruler of these lawns, stops and freezes mid-catch, with his paw in the air as one would raise their pinky holding a cup of tea. That said, the audience has a front-row view of the harmonious curves of the feline’s rounded back, of its plumed tail and its shiny coat. The chase for the butterfly, which we barely see against the dark background, is just an excuse for the painter to highlight the grace and elegance of this luxurious cat.
